Landing at Kempegowda Airport? Your Self Drive Car Rental Options

Published 3 July 2026 · 5 min read · RegalCarz Team

Landing at Kempegowda International Airport and want the freedom to drive yourself onward? A self drive car rental is a great way to start a Bangalore trip on your own terms — no waiting for surge-priced cabs, no negotiating fares, just your own car and your own route. It helps to know how the logistics work, though, because a Kempegowda airport car rental with RegalCarz is not an airport-counter arrangement. Our cars are picked up at our office on ITPL Main Road in Hoodi, so a little planning around your arrival makes everything smooth.

This guide walks you through how to arrange a self drive car around a flight into BLR, how to time it, and which car to choose for whatever comes next — whether that is a family holiday, a business week or a straight run outstation.

How airport pickup actually works

To be clear from the start: there is no RegalCarz counter inside the terminal. Our pickup point is the Hoodi office on ITPL Main Road, Bangalore – 560048, which is roughly 40 to 50 km from the airport depending on the route you take. That distance is very normal for Bangalore — the airport sits well to the north of the city, and most destinations are a similar drive away.

The simplest way to handle it is to plan ahead with us. Contact us on WhatsApp at +91 9113274150 to plan your pickup, share your arrival timing and confirm the car. From the terminal you can take a pre-paid taxi, an app cab or the airport bus towards the Hoodi and Whitefield side, collect your rental from us, and carry on from there. Because we are open seven days a week from 7 AM to 9 PM, most daytime and evening arrivals line up comfortably.

Timing your rental around the flight

The single most useful tip is to build in a buffer. Flights land late, baggage takes time and the transfer to Hoodi is a real journey, so do not schedule your rental to the minute. If you are arriving late at night, it is often easier to collect the car the following morning within our opening hours rather than racing the clock. If you are flying out at the end of your trip, plan the return the same way — return the car to Hoodi with time to spare before heading back to the airport.

If you have never rented a self drive car before, it is worth skimming our first-time self drive renter tips so the pickup, walkaround and paperwork feel familiar before you arrive.

Choosing the right car for your onward trip

Your ideal car depends on what happens after pickup. Arriving for a family holiday? A seven-seater gives everyone room to stretch after a flight — the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga for easy value, the Toyota Innova Crysta for long-distance comfort, or the Mahindra XUV 7XO for a feature-rich modern feel. If you are comparing the big three, our guide to the best 7 seater cars to rent in Bangalore lays out the differences.

Travelling solo or as a couple? A hatchback like the Renault Kwid, Toyota Glanza, Hyundai i20, Volkswagen Polo or Tata Punch is economical and easy in traffic, while a compact SUV — Maruti Suzuki Brezza, Kia Sonet, Nissan Magnite or Mahindra XUV 3XO — adds space and a higher driving position for longer drives. Business travellers often prefer a sedan; our Maruti Suzuki Dzire and Maruti Suzuki Ciaz strike a smart, comfortable note. See everything on the fleet page.

Heading straight outstation from the airport side

Many arrivals want to drive on to a destination rather than into the city. Because the airport is in the north, temple town Tirupati is a natural onward trip at around 250 km, and Nandi Hills is only about 60 km away for a quick scenic stop. Just remember that outstation trips need advance approval from RegalCarz, and you will cover tolls, any interstate taxes and fines. Sort the plan when you book so it is all approved before you land — our guide to the outstation self drive rules for Bangalore explains exactly how that works.

Rates, kilometres and deposit

Five-seaters start from ₹2,800 per day and seven-seaters from ₹4,200 per day, with 250 km included per rental day. If you are driving onward to a far destination, remember the transfer from the airport to Hoodi is separate from your rental, and plan the rental kilometres for the trip ahead. Extra kilometres are charged, so contact RegalCarz for the current per-km rate rather than guessing, and check the pricing section for current figures.

A flat ₹1,000 refundable security deposit applies, returned within 24 to 48 hours of a clean return, subject to deductions for damage, missing fuel or overdue charges. Fuel runs full-to-full — a full tank when you collect and a full tank on return.

What to carry

Bring the essentials with you off the plane: you must be at least 21 with a valid Indian driving licence that is at least one year old, plus your original Aadhaar or another government photo ID for the pickup. The renter named on the booking is the primary driver and must be present when the car is handed over. Minimum rental is 24 hours, and if your plans shift, request any extension at least four hours before the return time to avoid late charges of ₹100 per hour for the first two hours and the full daily rate after that.
