The Complete Guide to Self Drive Car Rental in Bangalore (2026)

Published 3 February 2026 · 5 min read · RegalCarz Team

Self drive car rental in Bangalore has quietly become the default way to get around for weekend trips, airport runs and those weeks when your own car is in the workshop. Instead of a driver watching the clock, you get the keys, set your own pace and treat the car as your own for the day. This complete 2026 guide walks you through everything that actually matters — who can rent, what documents you carry, how pricing and kilometre limits work, deposits, fuel rules and the practical steps to book — using the way we run things at RegalCarz from our office on ITPL Main Road, Hoodi, near Whitefield.

Whether you are renting for the first time or you have done it a dozen times, the fundamentals are worth getting right. A little planning here saves you money and awkward surprises later.

What self drive car rental in Bangalore really means

With a self drive rental, you are the driver — there is no chauffeur and no per-kilometre meter running in the background. You pick the car up, keep it for the agreed period, and drive it wherever your plans take you within the terms of the rental. It suits airport transfers, family outings, house-hunting weekends, and of course the classic Karnataka road trip. If you are still weighing your options, our comparison of self drive versus a chauffeur-driven car lays out the trade-offs in cost, privacy and flexibility.

Who can rent: eligibility and documents

The eligibility rules are simple and non-negotiable, because they protect both you and the car. To rent a self drive car with us you must be:

The person who books must be the primary driver and must be present at pickup — the licence and ID have to match the booking. We verify these documents before handing over the keys, so bring the originals rather than photos on your phone. For the full checklist, including what counts and what does not, read our dedicated guide on the documents required to rent a self drive car.

The fleet: 14 cars for every kind of trip

RegalCarz runs a fleet of 14 well-maintained cars, so you can match the vehicle to the journey rather than squeezing everyone into whatever is left. The line-up is:

You can see photos and specifications on our fleet page, which makes it easy to shortlist before you call.

Pricing, kilometre limits and extra charges

Rates start from ₹2,800 per day for our 5-seaters — that band covers the Dzire, Glanza, i20, Ciaz, Brezza, Kwid, Polo, Punch, Magnite, Sonet and XUV 3XO. The 7-seaters — Ertiga, Innova Crysta and XUV 7XO — start from ₹4,200 per day. Every rental includes 250 kilometres per day. Drive beyond that and extra kilometres are chargeable, so if you are planning a long run it is worth asking us for the current per-km rate up front. For today's exact figures on any car, check the pricing section.

Security deposit and fuel policy

We keep the money side refreshingly simple. There is a flat security deposit of ₹1,000, refunded within 24 to 48 hours of return once the car has been checked, subject to any deductions for damage, missing fuel or overdue charges. Fuel is handled on a full-to-full basis: the car is given to you with a full tank and should come back with a full tank. Any shortfall is deducted at the market fuel rate plus a ₹100 service charge. If you want to understand exactly how refunds and deductions work, our breakdown of the security deposit and fuel policy covers it end to end.

Rental duration, late returns and extensions

The minimum rental is 24 hours, which counts as one day. If you run late, the first two hours are charged at ₹100 per hour, after which the full daily rate applies — so it pays to be realistic about return times. Need more time? Request an extension at least four hours before your scheduled return so we can confirm the car is free. A quick message on WhatsApp is usually all it takes.

Taking the car outstation

Outstation trips are welcome with advance approval — just let us know your plan when you book. Trips within Karnataka and to neighbouring states are common, and for those you are responsible for tolls, interstate taxes and any fines. A few things are never permitted in any rental: racing, off-roading, transporting commercial goods, subletting the car, smoking inside it, or driving under the influence. Damages not covered by insurance are the renter's responsibility, so drive sensibly and report anything unusual straight away.
